In a historic move, Bangladesh has today launched 5G commercially to expedite the journey of digital transformation and let everyone avail of advanced technologies offered by the 5th generation mobile technology. Teletalk Bangladesh Limited will roll out 5G with technical support from the leading ICT infrastructure provider, Huawei.
A program titled ‘New Era with 5G’ has been organized to this end at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden today. Honorable Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy officially launched 5G by gracing the event as the chief guest.
Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Division Mustafa Jabbar was also present at the event as the special guest. Alongside, Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman; BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder; Md Shahab Uddin, Managing Director of Teletalk Bangladesh Limited; graced the occasion with their presence. Simon Lin, President of the Asia Pacific region of Huawei; Zhang Zhengjun, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited, took part virtually and delivered a congratulatory message to Bangladesh and all involved in the 5G launching on this occasion. The Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also shared her inspiring comments through a video message.
Initially, the 5G network will be deployed in 6 sites located around the Bangladesh Secretariat, the National Parliament area, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, the National Monument in Savar, and the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation in Tungipara, Gopalganj. The majority of the abovementioned areas will use the infrastructural support provided by Huawei. Only limited numbers of predefined subscribers will be able to use 5G. 5G Network will be rolled out at the district level gradually; Teletalk has a plan to deploy 200 5G sites by next year.
“Today, we are only taking the first step towards 5G, and there is still a long way to go in the future. And that can surely happen since we have such a collaborative partner like Huawei.”, said Md Shahab Uddin, Managing Director of Teletalk Bangladesh Limited.

Simon Lin, President of the Asia Pacific region of Huawei, said, “Huawei has been playing an instrumental role in deploying 5G technology around the world. Huawei has been providing infrastructural support to many countries throughout the world for rolling out advanced 5G technology. Bangladesh, I believe, will also get benefited from our state-of-the-art technology for expediting the adoption of 5G technology.”
At the event, a temporary 5G site was launched, and the audiences experienced AR/VR services, learned about innovative 5G use cases, experienced 969 Mbps speed and 4~10 ms latency first hand.
