A former Chhatra League leader was allegedly beaten by a female BCL leader at the Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of today while he went to pay homage to language movement martyrs.

The victim, Ahsanul Haque Yeasir, former secretary for Relief and Disaster Management affairs of Dhaka city (south) BCL received treatment from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after the beating and was sent home later, reports our Dhaka University correspondent quoting Yeasir.

While talking to The Daily Star, Yeasir blamed Benjir Hossain Nishi, joint general secretary of BCL central committee, for the attack but Nishi denied the allegation.

Yeasir said he was standing in line with other BCL leaders and activists to pay respect to the language movement martyrs while Nishi was standing before him.

“At the time, someone pushed her from behind but Nishi hit my head with her phone. I was seriously injured as my head was bleeding. Some BCL men took me to DMCH for treatment,” he said.

Talking to this correspondent, Nishi said, “I am not involved in the incident. Someone is hatching a conspiracy against me. I heard, a leader was beaten as he tried to harass women. But I was not present there”.

This correspondent tried reaching Chhatra League President Al Nahean Khan Joy and General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee for comments but they were unavailable.
