The local administration and the health department have sealed off at least 63 unregistered clinics and diagnostic centres in a nationwide drive under the direction of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Following the DGHS order to shut down all unregistered hospitals and clinics across the country, district health authorities along with law enforcement conducted mobile courts in different upazilas and districts on Saturday.

The order came at a meeting held by health officials on Wednesday to take legal action against unregistered clinics and diagnostic centres.

The meeting decided that harsh action, including revoking licenses, will be taken against hospitals and clinics if they allow other people to stay at the operation theaters other than registered physicians.

Besides, no clinic, private hospital, or diagnostics centre will be allowed to run their activities until they get licences.

The officials have also decided to take strict measures against unregistered health workers who assist doctors and nurses administer anesthesia to patients or take part in operation theatres.

In Chittagong, four private clinics and diagnostic centres were closed down due to irregularities.

The private clinics and diagnostic centers are Cosmopolitan Hospital Pvt Ltd at Chatteshwari Road, Popular Medical Center at DT Road, Nirupani Pathology Laboratory at the city’s Dhampara, CSTC Hospital above Panchlaish Treatment Building.
