Yet another video of a man taking out a screw of the Padma Bridge has gone viral on social media. In the 26-second video, the young man who had the screw in his hand said: “I took out the screw of Padma Bridge. I’m putting it back just to show I’m not taking it home with me.” “I did not need a wrench to take it off,” he added. He is yet to be identified. Earlier, on Sunday, police arrested one Bayezid Talha from the capital for making a TikTok video of him taking out a screw of the newly inaugurated bridge. The police are in the process of filing a case against him under the Special Powers Act. Meanwhile, the bridge authorities have already written to Bangladesh Army, responsible for security of the bridge, to ensure that the public is not allowed to get down on the bridge. Padma Bridge Project Director Md Shafiqul Islam wrote to the army’s Engineering Support and Safety Team (ESST) on Sunday after a few similar incidents were reported including a man urinating on the side of the bridge. In the letter, Shafiqul Islam said that despite the public not being allowed on the bridge, many are getting down and in addition to stealing materials, many are also damaging equipment around the toll plaza. He called on them to beef up ESST patrols in the area. The Padma Bridge was opened to the public on Sunday after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the bridge the day before. Rules remained relaxed on the first day and many were seen getting down on the bridge and taking photos.
