ESSAB Secretary General M. Mahmudur Rashid said this at the “Disaster Management Exercise 2.0” workshop organized at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) on Wednesday (October 12) morning. He also said that the current infrastructure development of Bangladesh is amazing. An integral part of this development is disaster management. If we don’t want to see any more horrific accidents like Rana Plaza, Tazreen Garments or BM Container, we need to raise awareness in every home and workplace and implement proper disaster management everywhere. This requires the participation of all levels of society. Addressing the students, he further said that fire safety, security and disaster management are now an attractive field in the job market. There is huge potential here. This sector has already created more than 5 thousand jobs and is continuously growing. ESSAB Joint General Secretary Zakir Uddin Ahmed presented various information on behalf of ESSAB in the workshop. He presented case studies of various periodical accidents in the country and explained the learning points. In the speech of the chief guest, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam said, “According to the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC), it is mandatory to take permission from the fire service, environment department, gas and electricity department during the construction of buildings. In case of high-rise buildings, it is also mandatory to have fire detectors, smoke detectors and sprinkler systems. But it is a matter of great regret that these codes are not properly followed in the construction of most of the buildings in different cities of the country including the capital. As a result of which accidents occur at various times.
